What is the "Cherokee Nation"? PDF Print E-mail

There are actually ways of viewing the "Cherokee Nation". There are two divisions of the Cheroke nation made up of the Cherokee Nation (of Oklahoma) and the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Inidans (in North Carolina). "Cherokee Nation" is the name and registered trademark of the second largest federally-recognized Indian tribe in the United States. It is located in Northeast Oklahoma and has more than 200,000 tribal members.  Once a year, these two "tribes" meet for a joint council session.
